Alan Wilkinson Chambers: Walking the Talk
In 2000 Alan led the first British team unsupported walk to the
Geographic North Pole from Canada -- "After seventy gruelling days on
the ice hauling all our supplies we stood glorious at the top of the
world". More recently he led a novice team unsupported in
temperatures below minus fifty degrees Celsius over 500 miles of frozen
ice floes to the Geographic North Pole. They faced huge challenges
with only a 1% chance of achieving their aim.
Alan will share his story as well as compelling images of a journey that was an extreme test of mind over matter and a tale of the strength of self belief and mental resilience. It is a refreshingly raw account of leadership from within and the vital lessons of leadership, coaching and teamwork that differentiate between success and failure. He will speak to the importance of getting the attitude right and scenario planning, of individual, team and self coaching and leading in adversity.
Alan Wilkinson Chambers served in the Royal Marines for sixteen years, during which time he lived and worked around the globe in the most extreme climates. He has lead many expeditions, notably within the Arctic and was awarded the MBE in the Queens 2000 New Years Honours list for determination and strong leadership in adverse conditions during the successful unsupported walk from Canada to the Geographical North Pole in Spring 2000. Alan is a sought after inspirational speaker to a global audience of executives from a broad spectrum of businesses and non-profit organisations including schools such as Harvard, London Business School, Ashridge and Insead. He is author, with Sally Vanson, of Walking the Talk -- Lessons for Leaders with Success in their Stride (Published December 2004) www.theperformancesolution.com.
